Basic Law of Blogging

Here you find a brief introduction on what to pay attention to when blogging in the Internet. I put together these guidelines for students starting with blogging, but most of the points below also apply for the more mature bloggers.

These are rules you should abide to so that you become a respected blogger

  • Stay safe and do not hurt anybody else.
  • Do not share and post last names, addresses, telephone numbers or other personal information. This applies for yourself and other students.
  • Tags and Categories belong to every post, it helps yourself and your reader to find content.
  • When commenting, respond polite to others just as you were face to face with them.
  • No texting abbreviations and please proofread your writing. Spelling and grammar matter, build good habits now! Do not use bad language.
  • You are supposed to showcase your own work, whenever you are using other people’s thoughts or work use citations. Copying and pasting is not appropriate!
  • A post here on a blog is different from a post on Social Media! You do not have any size limit, that gives you the possibility to develop your ideas in more detail and with more thoughtfulness. Take advantage of this format! You can still link your post here back to your Social Media account to get the attention of your regular crowd there.
  • You may reuse other people’s images and graphics, only if the author of the material agrees you to do so. When using materials that is covered by a Creative Commons Licence, you can see how to reuse the materials without the need to contact the author. See below how to find out if you can use images using a tool available on the Google Chrome browser.
  • Show and share your work.
  • Structure your posts nicely, use images and sketches to bring across your point. A photo or a screen shot is easy to make.
  • Enjoy the experience of sharing your knowledge, engage with others whenever sensitive and possible.
Google Chrome allows you to check whether it is ok to reuse an image.
